Abstract (EN)
Tobacco products, which has significant immortal effects on human health, consumed by smoking or smokeless without burning. Maras powder is a kind of smokeless tobacco widely used in southeast region of Turkey especially in Kahramanmaras. This product is obtained from the leaves of Nicotiana Rustica Linn and consumed in mouth by sucking. In our study, the expession levels of microRNA were examined in order to detect the effects of this product on the oral mucosa, which is considered to be carcinogenic effect was examined. For this purpose, swap samples were taken from the oral mucosa of Maras powder users and from the individuals who do not use any tobacco product and the expression levels of let-7a, let-7b and miR-96 of these members were compared. All microRNA's has been observed at lower expression levels in the Maras powder users, but there was no statistically significant difference between any users (p>0.05). Maras powder is applied in the area of the oral mucosa that may cause carcinogenic changes and it is thought that microRNA analysis would provide significant benefits for the early diagnosis of oral cancer.
