Traditional methods about mother and baby care at postpartum period of married women whom lived in Mardin province, Kiziltepe district

Traditional practices concerning to mother and baby care during postpartum period in undeveloped and developing countries are important health care problems. This study applied to married women, Mardin province, Kızıltepe district is aimed to traditional applications and related factors about mothers and their babies during postpartum period.This study is cross-sectional type of research. A face to face conversation survey conducted on 549 married women. There were 527 conversations completed. Responsiveness ratio was 96.0%. Sociodemographic factors of the research data, obstetric history and postnatal period, maternal and infant care practices are judged against the traditional face to face the implementation of a survey that included questions were collected. Data, the SPSS package program, percentage average, X2 (chi-square) analysis evaluated.The average age of women included in the survey was 36.77±12.39. The 34.2 percent of them were 30-39 years old. The lower levels of education of women and their husbands, and their age increases, the end of the birth of their babies to apply the traditional method of application, or the increase in rates was observed (p <0.05). However, the monthly income levels of families of women decreases, the socioeconomic and assessing their health status as poor, with increasing number of children living in, made out of hospital births, with different methods to solve the problem of any health workers to apply the traditional method of application and has determined that higher rates (p<0.05).As a result, behaviors of regional women about traditional method application for mother and baby care during postpartum period were found to be high. According to this type of surveys, by society?s sociodemographic and environmental factors taking into account, proposal and intervention studies can be planned.Key words: Traditional methods, postpartum period, married women, mother and baby.
