Özet (EN)

ABSTRACTThis study deals with folk culture of Syrian people living in Mardin and its surroundings. This study consists of five chapters. In the first chapter, this study deals with briefly historical and geographical information about Mardin and its surroundings.In the second chapter, this study deals with the main subject that is the hisory of Syrians from to present, information about Syriac language and literature, and Tur Abdin region where Syrians are densely populated in Turkey.In the third chapter, the study deals with transition periods of Mardin Syrians that are birth, marriage, death and the relavant application, faith and practice. Besides, in the third chaper, festival and sacred days, folk beliefs, folk physicians, folk kitchen, games for children and folk art are the other subjects.In the forth and last chapters, folk literature works of Mardin Syrians such as folk song, lullaby, repartee, riddle, proverbs, epigrams, prayer, hymn, folk tale, legends are gathered together.This study is a monographic research on folk culture of Mardin Syrians and it is completed with a conclusion chapter related with a general evaluation.Keywords: Mardin, Syrians, folk culture, faith, folk culture works.
