The effect of use interactive board in mathematics course on students' academic achievement, motivation and attitudes

The purpose of this research is to investigate the effect of interactive board use on students' attitudes towards mathematics achievement, motivation, and interactive board. In this study, the pre-test-post-test control group pattern, which is the real experimental model type, is used. The research was carried out during the spring semester of the 2016-2017 academic year in Elazığ Kanuni Sultan Süleyman Middle School. The study included the first part of the fifth Unit of Mathmatics Course of Sixth grade. In the control group where 16 learners were involved in the research, the course contents were presented using traditional methods supported by information technology tools; In the experiment group where 17 students took place, the subject was explained by using the board with the same course content. Descriptive statistics such as the data arithmetic means, percent-frequency obtained after the application as well as the t test for independent samples and the t test for related measures were used for pretest-posttest and inter-group comparisons. Achievement test developed by the researcher, motivation scale developed by Özerbaş (2003) and the attitude scale towards the interactive board in the mathematics course prepared by Tataroğlu and Erduran (2009) were used as the data collection tool in the research. Success, motivation and attitude tests were analyzed using the independent groups t test and paired group t test. As a result of the research, it was determined that the use of interactive board in Mathematics course had a significant positive difference in terms of academic achievement compared to traditional methods supported information technology. There was a significant difference between the experimental and control group students' level of motivation for the Mathematics course, which means that the experimental group students were more willing to teach. The attitudes of the students in the experimental group to the interactive board were positive. Key Words: Interactive board, Motivation, Teaching Mathematics, Success, Attitude, Scale
