Abstract (EN)

The aim of this research was to examine the effect of mathematical modelling problems on fifth grade students'academic achievement in mathematics course, self-efficacy towards geometry and attitu¬de towards mathematics. There search has been arranged as the pre- and post-test control group quasi-experimen¬tal design. The research was conducted with 69 fiftth grade students from a state middle school during 2018-2019 academic years. The experimental group consisted of 35 and the control group consisted of 34 students. Instruction was carried out with mathematical modelling problems mathematical modelling problems, which is prepared depending on the geometry and measurement learning area in experimental group and according to current curriculum in which mathematical modelling problems was not used in the control group. Data were collected using the achievement test, Self-Efficacy Scale Towards Geometry and Mathematics Attitude Scale. The quantitative data was analyzed by applying a t-test for dependent and independent samples. According to the results of the data analysis, at the end of the interventions, it was seen that the levels of academic achievement, self-efficacy towards geometry, and attitu¬de towards mathematics of the experimental group were significantly higher than the control group. Based on the findings of this study, there searchers have offered suggestions for those who are to perform any other research on mathematical modelling problems. Keywords: Mathematical Modelling, Geometry, Self-Efficacy Towards Geometry, Attitu¬de Towards Mathematics
