The effect of teaching material aided instruction on 8 th grade students' academic success and level of oermanency

The aim of this study is to compare the teaching supported by material for the teaching of Pascal Triangle and Binomial Expansion on the 8 th grades with the traditional teaching method.The research was applied in a Primary School in Bolu, Gerede during the first term of 2006-2007 Academic Year. 51 students from two different classes who were in the 8th grades were involved in the study. Experiment group and control group were defined at random.The lessons were taught with the traditional teaching methods for control group and the activities planned with the method aided by material for experiment group.The model of pre-test post-test control group was used in the research. Pascal Triangle and Binomial Expansion success test was applied to the students as pre-test and post-test. Moreover, after two months, one more test was also applied to measure the permanancy of the success level. At the end of the study the data was analysed by using SPSS packet program. Whether there was a significant difference between average of pre-test and post-test or not and the level of permanency were analyzed.The result showed that the students who were taught with the methods supported by material were more successful than the students who were taught with the traditional teaching methods and it was also seen that the things taught were more permanent.
