The critical edition and analysis of Mecdîzâde Abdurrahman Kâmil Efendi's work titled Sharh of the Kasîdetu Bânet Suꜥâd

It is a well-known fact that Arabs placed significant importance on poetry and rhyme both during the pre-Islamic period of ignorance (Jāhiliyyah) and the post-Islamic period. Poets, writers, and orators who lived in both eras and reflected the characteristics of these periods in their works played a crucial role in the rooting and development of Arabic literature. This study analyzes and evaluates the commentary written by Hafız Mecdîzâde Abdurrahman Kâmil Efendi, one of the prominent scholars of Amasya, on the poem "Bānat Suꜥād," composed by Kaꜥb b. Zuhayr to praise the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him). Kaꜥb b. Zuhayr is considered a bridge figure between pre-Islamic and Islamic Arabic literature. Abdurrahman Kâmil Efendi lived through both the Ottoman and Republican eras. Not only did he pursue religious education, but he also served in roles such as professor, preacher, and mufti, guiding the public spiritually. He trained many students throughout his life and authored works in various fields. The work examined in this study includes grammatical analysis and prosodic (meter) information on the aforementioned poem. The first chapter covers the lives of Kaꜥb b. Zuhayr and Abdurrahman Kâmil Efendi. The second chapter discusses the methodology, content, and features of the text and its commentary. The third chapter presents the critical edition of the commentary, with necessary corrections and improvements in spelling rules. Analyses reveal that Abdurrahman Kâmil Efendi applied the "combined commentary" method in his work. One distinctive feature that sets this commentary apart from others is the detailed display of the metrical patterns (tafaꜥīl) for each individual verse.
