The main objective of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey opened on 23 April 1920 in Ankara under the extraordinary circumstances and the national struggle carried out was to provide full independence in all areas such as economics, finance and politics. In this respect, while, on one hand, a fight against the Otoman government and the problems caused by the government was being given, on the other hand another fight was being given against the invading forces. The method followed during all was to keep the policies including the country?s national in the forefront the country's national benefits principles.Turkey's foreign policy principles in this period actually began in the period of Congress. With the opening of the Parliament consisting of the deputies having a different mentality from all over the country, but serving a single purpose, these principles created a firmly legitimate ground.Deputies, while taking decisions on the country?s domestic policies with their arduous negotiations done under the country's conditions, they also made important foreign policy decisions determining the fate of the country. However, the link between internal politics and external politics and their completing each other was not ignored. On taking decisions about foreign policy, world politics and relations between the states were followed and discussed in all aspects, and the international policy of the Parliament to be followed was determined accordingly. In this context, the daily and short-term political attempts were avoided and the relations established with other countries to contribute to world peace were emphasized permanently and on long term.
