Effect of Earplugs and Eye Mask on Perceived Sleep Quality of Breast Cancer Patients in Medical Oncology Service Sleep quality means that the person is rested and ready for the new day. Sleep quality of hospitalized patients is affected by environmental factors such as noise and light. The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of ear plugs and eye masks on sleep quality in breast cancer patients hospitalized in the medical oncology department. The quasi-experimental study was conducted with 30 inpatients in Hacettepe University Medical Oncology Services of Oncology Hospital. The "Information Form" was collected using "Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index" and "Visual Analogue Scale ". The necessary permissions were obtained from the Ethics Committee of Çukurova University and Hacettepe University Oncology Hospital. SPSS 24 software was used for statistical analysis of the data. As a result of the study, it was found that the use of ear plugs and eye masks positively affected sleep quality according to VAS satisfaction score, subjective sleep quality, sleep latency and PSQI total score differed according to marital status, sleep latency and daytime dysfunction differed according to education level. 70,0% of the patients participating in the study were married, 76.7% had children, 36.7% were secondary school graduates and the average age was 49.77 ± 14.03. 46.7% of the patients had disease for more than 5 years, 60.0% had 3rd stage breast cancer, 44.0% had chemotherapy, 53.3% had been hospitalized for 3 days or more, It was determined that 53.3% stayed in a double room, 25.8% woke up frequently in the hospital environment, 30.4% had a disordered sleep pattern due to the physical conditions of the hospital, and the mean total PSQI score was 10.7 ± 3.21. As a result of this study, it is thought that ear plugs and eye masks can be used in patients who have sleep problems due to noise and light in the hospital environment.
