Abstract (EN)
Media today can construct femininity and masculinity and gender relations. Media texts are perceived to be one of the prime cultural sites through which it is possible to study the position of women in society. The way women are represented in the print media is influenced greatly by the language used. Print media reflects social values and reveals traditional gender stereotypes, and it is possible to see representations of gender roles in the mass media. Women are subjected to pressure and are considered secondary in the media, as well as in language. The mass media, especially newspapers, play important roles in teaching traditional gender rolesIn this study, the presentation of women in the media of Turkey and Sri Lanka will be examined by choosing a sample from the media organizations that are at the top in terms of usage rates. This study will also try to determine the factors affecting how women are presented in the media and to analyze the effects they have created in both societies. Content analysis method will be used to determine how women are represented in the media. As this study is a comparison between Turkey and Sri Lanka, it will continue to be a valuable resource in the future. Keywords: Turkey, Sri Lanka, media, women, content analysis
