Mehmet Sabri Yetkin and Commentary on Kaside-i Nuniyye

In this study, Amasya scholars Mehmet Sabri Yetkin (d. 1963) and his work named Kasȋde-i Nȗniyye Commentary are introduced. The work was analyzed and transferred to today's Turkish. The work, of which a copy has been reached, is located in the book numbered 8063/3, which is registered in the National Library. In the first part of the study, information about Mehmet Sabri Yetkin's life and works is given. In the second part, after giving information about Kasȋde-i Nȗniyye and its author Ebȗ'l-Feth el-Büstȋ (d. 400/1010), Yetkin's Commentary on Kasȋde-i Nȗniyye was introduced. Then, the annotation was verified and transcribed. In the study, Mehmet Sabri Yetkin's Kasȋde-i Nȗniyye Commentary was examined and the commentary method was outlined. Mehmet Sabri Yetkin (d. 1963), who is a member of the Mecdizâde family that Amasya hosted years ago, is a scholar, decent and virtuous person. Mehmet Sabri Yetkin, the son and successor of Amasya Mufti Abdurrahman Kâmil Yetkin (d.1941), who played a vital role during the National Struggle, received a qualified education and received ratification in different branches of science from the famous scholars of the period. Mehmet Sabri Yetkin, who worked as a teacher, library clerk and in various positions, was elected to the Mufti of Amasya after his father's death and performed this duty between 1942-1962. While performing his duty as Mufti, he got sick and took leave from his duty and passed away in Amasya in 1963. Mehmet Sabri Yetkin, who continued his scientific activities while he was the Mufti of Amasya, has written many works in different fields such as literature, fiqh, mysticism, morality and tafsir, including copyright, translation, tafsir and commentary. Another work that Mehmet Sabri Yetkin had pen on is Kasȋde-i Nûniyye by Ebȗ'l-Fath el-Bustȋ (d. 400/1010). Bustȋ, one of the favorite students of the famous hadith scholar Ibn Hibban (d. 354/965), has many poems, but only one divan and Kasȋde-i Nȗniyye remain. In Kasȋde-i Nȗniyye, also known as Unvânu'l-Hikem and Kasȋdetü'l-Büstȋ, virtues such as benevolence, tolerance, kindness, grace and forgiveness are mentioned, as well as following the way of Allah, obeying the orders and prohibitions of religion, staying away from oppressors, clinging to reason. Principles such as not obeying the desires of the nafs and giving importance to education and learning are emphasized. Many scholars have translated or commented on the eulogy. The commentary written by Mehmet Sabri Yetkin is one of them. Mehmet Sabri Yetkin wrote this work in 1375 Hijri, while he was serving as Mufti of Amasya, in order to teach his students the subjects of syntax and syntax, to show the translation method from Arabic to Turkish, to adorn their memories and for other religious brothers to benefit from this ode. He applied to the works of many scholars in different fields, especially the Qur'an and hadiths, and sprinkled many poems and parables into the work.
