Özet (EN)
It's possible to say that production through natural inspiration is almost as old as human history. Over the centuries, people have been inspired by the forms and attitudes of living organisms and non-living objects to build up their shelters, tools and machines. Since prehistoric times, nature has been a source of application for several disciplines. In general, design is assessed as a study area that can be linked to the nature directly and that uses this relation the most efficiently. Pure and smooth geometry and constant functioning of the nature and some other significant operations that cannot be noticed at first have aroused the inspiration of several designers and these features have created the forms, working principles and main aspects in design from time to time. In architectural design, nature has always been a source of inspiration to the development of materials, patterns, structures, forms and functions. Several innovative approaches can be uttered to examplify these developments such as air-conditioning systems inspired by termitariums, dirt-proof containers and paints inspired by different plants, conveyor systems imitating bone structure and patterns created from natural structures. The aim of the study is to look into the biomimetic design approach that could be evaluated as the systematics including natural inspiration and imitation. The study includes five separate chapters all of which focus on the biomimetic examination of the design relation between biomimetic and architectural designs. The first chapter defines the problem and identifies the main objectives of the study. The second and third chapters include other studies and theoretical explanations regarding biomimetic approach in design. These chapters also mention about the history and development of materials. The fourth chapter includes the examinations and biomimetic analysis of architectural and interior architectural sample designs developed by biomimetic approach. In order to continue the researches on biomimetic design approach in future academic studies, the thesis work was ended.
