Abstract (EN)

The Mamluk State stands in an extremely important place in terms of Islamic history. The Mamluks, who had an important political mission to stop the Mongol attacks, systematized the scientific and cultural knowledge transferred to them by building many institutions. A part of this scientific heritage is the activities carried out in the field of recitation. The Mamluks enabled the systematic teaching of many works, especially the works of Shâtıbî and İbnü'l-Cezerî, and the transfer of this teaching method later. In this study, this mission of the Mamluks is discussed in the context of scholars, works and institutions. The basis of the recitation activities of the period is based on the knowledge that was previously transferred to the region. In addition, under the influence of the political, cultural and scientific conditions, these activities gained characteristics specific to the Mamluk period. Thus, these centuries when they dominated became an example for the recitation activities after the Mamluks. After the Ottoman Empire defeated the Mamluks, not only their "lands" but also their scientific knowledge and educational system were transferred to the Ottoman Empire. In this respect, recitation teaching activities almost everywhere in the Islamic world today bear traces from the Mamluk period. Recitation activities are directly related to the general political-scientific environment. In this sense, when we look at the scholar profile of the period, we encounter the encyclopedist scholar model in almost every field of Islamic sciences. Therefore, in the study, the general political-scientific environment of the period, the scholar profile, institutions and teaching model were mainly dealt with. Institutional influences, family contribution and support from umera have an undeniable share in the recitation activities of the Mamluk period. But the distinctive aspects of recitation activities are not limited to these. Because there is a historical period in which certain charismatic names and works are periodically guiding. This periodization, in which the study draws attention to periods of fifty years, will facilitate both the understanding of the recitation activities of the Mamluk period and the issues that make them different.
