Occupational health and safety awareness of employees in the greenhouse sector in Mersin province, identification of the dangers and risks for greenhouse employees

It is very significant that occupational health and safety measures are applicable in the greenhouse sector as in every sector. One of the most crucial factors that can increase this applicability is the awareness of the employees. In this study, it was aimed to determine the occupational health and safety awareness of the workers in the greenhouses in Mersin, the hazards and risks they encounter, and to develop suggestions for the solution of the problems. The research was carried out in the form of survey application and field work in greenhouse management located in the center of Mersin, Anamur and Bozyazı counties. With the survey study, information was obtained about the occupational health and safety awareness of the workers in the greenhouses. As a result of the field works, the hazards and risks encountered by the employees were determined, in the direction of the information received, it has been determined that the awareness levels of the workers in the greenhouses show crucial differences according to gender, age and education level. Moreover, it was determined that the education level of most of the employees was low. In this context, appropriate solutions to these problems are offered.
