The beliefs in public culture of Mersin nomads and the practices related to them

This study which is titled as "The Beliefs in Public Culture of Mersin Nomads and The Practices Related to Them" is about the Nomadic communities living within the borders of Mersin province and it consists of nine chapters. The first chapter is the introduction part and it involves the subject, aim and limits of the study, the general information about the research area as well as the methods and technics used in the study and the introduction of previous studies on the subject of research. The second chapter provides information about the Nomadic life. The third chapter includes the introduction of the old Turkish belief system in the context of being the source of the Turkish folk beliefs. The fourth chapter has the character of a theoretical view to the theologonic, cosmogonic, antrophogonic and eschatological cults in the Turkish mythology which is tried to establish a connection with the belief areas identified in the research area. The fifth chapter includes beliefs of Mersin Nomads about the transition periods. In the sixth chapter holy nights, holy months, religious and national holidays, rituals and beliefs about them take place. The seventh chapter includes practices and beliefs about treatment and the eighth chapter includes various beliefs in folk culture. The ninth and final chapter consists of conclusion section which contains the determinations that are reached at the end of the study. In this study, after the information obtained from written and verbal sources was classified in a particular order, they were investigated using comparative folklore methods. In this context, the connections between the identified beliefs and the old Turkish belief system were tried to be determined. It is attempted to reveal the similarities or differences of the stated beliefs with the practices in Anatolia and in the Turkish world. At the end of the study a concept index, a dictionary consisting of indigenous words, photos and maps are located. At the end of the research, in the beliefs in the Mersin Nomads folk culture, the presence of the traces of faith and cultural structure of both Middle East and Anatolia. were concluded. These traces have taken the color of the new religion in the process of the acceptance of Islam and have created today's applications.
