Abstract (EN)
Objective: Visfatin is a new member of adiponectin family which has effect on insulin sensitivity. The aim of this study was, investigate the possible relationship between serum visfatin levels and the metabolic syndrome components in metabolic syndrome population. Results: The study had been done in the internal medicine and endocrinology outpatient clinic. Ages were between the 20-57. Eighty metabolic syndrome (11 males, 69 females) and 35 healty control (15 males, 20 females) were included in the study with a total of 115 patients. The mean age of the patients with metabolic syndrome, 39,6 (± 9), and the control group were 31,2 (± 9.4). When we compare the parameters in serum, insulin levels, fasting blood glucose, HbA1c, and hsCRP levels were statistically significantly higher in the metabolic syndrome group. Serum visfatin levels did not differ significantly between the two groups. HsCRP levels in the insulin resistance group were 9,6 mg / L and the control group were 4,6 mg / L which was significantly higher.55 metabolic syndrome patient and 5 of control group had hepapatosteatosis. Conclusion: Visfatin levels didn?t significantly differ in metabolic syndrome to the controls in our study like the most studies were published in the literature. Therefore, visfatin should not responsible for the pathogenesis of metabolic diseases also didn?t have relationship between the visfatin and inflammatory conditions.
