The effect of the methodological approach to the understanding of sunnah

Sunnah is the sure result of the process of conveying divine message, declaring and applying of Islam, the meaning and content of which are determined by the revelation, and the common ground of persona and religion. Sunnah, which is the direction of the way of living in Islam, constitutes the origin of religion with its depth, breadth and content that exceeds dimensions. Islamic sciences such as kalam, hadith, fiqh and usul el-fiqh, which emerged as a result of the effort to understand and interpret the verses of the Qur'an correctly and systematized over time, defined the concept of sunnah within the boundaries and context of the methodologies they developed. Islamic science methodologies, in which different approaches to sunnah are shaped within their borders, have caused some effects and results on the approaches to the prophetic words and actions that are desired to be followed in religion by considering the sunnah in the terminology. In the first part of our study, which consists of an introduction and two main parts, methodologies for Islamic sciences in general, but in the base the approaches of the sciences of fiqh and fiqh methodology to the sunnah are examined. In the second part of our study, it is explained what the prophetic practices named with the mandub/sunnah decree in the science of fiqh actually mean in terms of three different hadiths that are the source of these verdicts. In the conclusion part, the point we want to draw attention to with our study is evaluated based on the information and data in the thesis.
