Özet (EN)

Mey, one of the wind instruments of modern- day Turkish Folk Music, is a commonly used stringed instrument in East of Anatolia and Northern Iran and it is called by various names in these areas. Features that distinguish Mey from other wind instruments are the number of frets, differences in performance and the way it is played according to the cultural structure of the region where it is used. Mey, which makes its presence felt with its unique figure and timbre in Anatolian Music, continues its leading role as a stringed instrument that must be given importance. Besides, it has a gloomy and lyrical sound. We were motivated by the fact that no book or article had been written on the technique and structure of the Mey. In our study, the technical and structural features of the Mey have been handled; techniques that are used during performances have been revealed; and melodic motives used in Mey tunings have been classified and clarified.
