The relationship between problem solving skills and emotion expression of patients diagnosed with migraine

In this research, the aim is to understand the relationship between headache patients pain and those patients social problem solving and emotion expression skills. The research have 269 participant who all diagnosed with headache Eventhough, the study conduct with headache patients, there is no constitued subgroups.. All participants are volunteers and age range is 15 to 68. Participation of the study provided from patients under treatment in Cerrahpasa Hospital and patients who filled the online form. The research is focused on the relationship between duration of headache, expression of emotions and problem solving skills. The Demographical İnformation Form used in the data collecting process prepared by the researchers. Moreover, in terms of understanding the social problem solving skills the study used the Social Problem Solving Invantory-Revised Short form which is developed by D'Zurilla and his colleguos in 1995, and the form adaptation to Turkish is held by Mehmet Eskin and Zeynep Aycan. In addition, on the purpose of understanding emotion expression styles, Emotion Expression Questionnare (EEQ) used in this research. The EEQ developed by King and Emmons in 1990 and the adaptation of Turkish implement by Yaşar Kuzucu in 2011. In this research, predicted relation between headache patient's emotion expressing and problem solving skills will be effective to determine the treatment for people with need. According to the analysis, the relationship between negative problem orientation and gender; avoidance style and gender, education, age of the first headache; positive emotion expression and gender, marital status, education, age, age of the first headache; intimacy emotion expression and existence of headache in the family; EEQ total point and gender, marital status, education, age, age of the first headache, have been proved by this research. The analysis conduct between scales indicate that positive problem orientation, rational problem solving, avoidance style and intimacy emotion expression also relationship between positive problem orientation and EEQ total score have a linear relationship. Finally, this paper refer to the limits of the research and suggestions for future studies.
