Analyzing intersection performance with microscopic simulation and analytical models: the case of Malatya province

Transportation is a multifunctional engineering branch that covers the transportation of individuals, goods and services from the beginning to the end point, including project design, design, maintenance and repair, operation, logistics and management. In this context, the study was conducted at the Kömür Tevzi Road and Sanayi Junction in Yeşilyurt District of Malatya province. By examining the current and zoning plans, evaluations were made including geometric arrangements to increase traffic safety. Three different transportation software programs were used in the thesis study. In the study, two analysis studies were carried out separately in each of the three programs. Transportation software programs are SUMO, PTV Vissim simulation program and SIDRA Intersection analytical program. Since SUMO only allows intersection modeling using its standard templates, the specific intersection model in this thesis could not be created. In the PTV Vissim program, the baseline and two different scenarios were implemented. In the current case, the level of service of the Sanayi Junction was determined to be 'F' In the first scenario, it was determined that the service level of the intersection increased to 'D', and in the second scenario, the service level increased to 'E'. In SIDRA Intersection program, the current situation and two different scenarios were applied. In the baseline case, the level of service was determined as 'F'. In the other two scenarios, there was no change in the level of service. However, the simulation results show that there is a significant reduction in the SIDRA Intersection program and other parameters (queue length, vehicle delay, carbon emissions and fuel consumption). The results obtained from the scenarios are analyzed and the data obtained are compared and interpreted. In addition, the salient features of the transportation software programs used in the thesis are also included.
