Historical evaluation of traditional Diyarbakır residential architecture in the footsteps of architect Doğan Erginbaş

The ancient city of Diyarbakır is one of the culturally and historically rich cities of Anatolia, which has hosted different civilizations and where various ethnic groups live together. The city, which spreads over a wide area with its geographical structure having a flat area, contains different types of buildings in it. Within the scope of the thesis, traditional houses with civil architectural structure of these types of buildings will be examined. Within the scope of the thesis, 11 traditional Diyarbakır residences were selected, which were handled by Architect Doğan Erginbaş, who came to Diyarbakır for his associate professorship thesis in 1950. Two of them are mansions, four are mansions and five are houses. The current condition of these houses, which were investigated by Erginbaş 73 years ago, will be shown and the problems of changing, converting and protecting houses from the past to the present will be examined. Currently, the lack of information about the final state of most of these structures has caused the research topic to focus on these structures. Rüştü Üçler's article published in 1942, in which Doğan Erginbaş quotes his drawings on the last pages of his associate professor thesis, three of which will be photographed in buildings, one of which is a mansion, will be evaluated within the scope of the thesis. A total of 15 buildings will be considered, comparing the past and present condition of these structures,the development of the understanding of historical monument preservation in Turkey and Diyarbakir from 1950 to the present, the change of research methods and techniques in historical circles from past to present, and the plan and facade features of the houses that are the material of the study, construction details, state of preservation, function, etc. with the changes, the restoration practices of different periods and the change of application techniques from the past to the present will be evaluated through these houses.
