A suggestion on increasing the creativity of students in architectural design education : Design-build approach

In recent years, because the focus of studies on design education, are on the design process and the concept of creativity has made it necessary to apply different learning methods in design studios.While the aim of architectural education is to educate creative and original architect candidates; in the design studios where the act of designing is taught, it is important to apply methods that improve students' creativity. Learning by doing is considered as a method to increase creativity, as it is based on individual experience and provides an interactive learning environment for students. In this context, the concepts of architectural design education, creativity and design-build studio were examined in detail. In order to determine the accuracy of the hypothesis put forward in the thesis, a field study was fulfilled. In the scope of this research, a questionnaire was prepared in line with the data obtained from the literature surveys and on-site interviews and observations in design studios and this questionnaire applied to the students of architecture in the universities that selected to have different architectural design perception in Turkey. As a result of the evaluation of the answers given to the questionnaire form, learning by doing method was found to be a significant method that positively affected the creativity levels of the students and suggestions have been developed.
