Examination of the architectural design process within the scope of the autopoiesis of architecture

The momentum gained by 21st century architecture in the production of information greatly affects and improves every sub-unit covered by the field. Therefore, the design process; it is affected by the developments of each part that constitutes the process and the differentiations that occur in the internal communication based on new correlations. Understanding the architectural design process, which is becoming a complex system whose scope expands and becomes difficult to follow with the computational design methods included in architectural design, is important for understanding the limits and knowledge of expertise. The intensity of the discussions in which the contemporary developments witnessed lead to expertise; As seen in the 1960s; In the late 20th century, it pushed design theorists to produce about the meaning and scope of architectural expertise. Patrik Schumacher, who is active in both architectural design and academic studies, created the the theory of the autopoiesis of architecture, with its definition of 'self-production' on the system of architecture; It aims to be the theory of knowledge that produced 21st century architecture. Included in the autopoiesis of architecture; the identity of the processes of creating, planning and producing the design and production, in the 21st century is necessary to be able to comment on the validity of the theory. In this study, the contemporary design process, which is in a dynamic change with the developing technology, has examined within the scope of the theory of the autopoiesis of architecture. In the increasingly hybrid information world of architecture, the study was designed as qualitative research in order to see the hybrid response sets created by the responses to the directed questions with the participant interpretation and to gain in-depth knowledge; Interviews were conducted with the joining of architectural experts working simultaneously in the field of architecture, academia and practice. In this way; architectural experts note the date; during interviews with experts; design process and design methods, the place of computational design in the contemporary architectural environment and the general contemporary architecture environment are evaluated, the status of architectural education and the existence of the theory of the autopoiesis of architecture in the contemporary architectural environment are examined. The findings that the theory of the autopoiesis of architecture is the defining theory of the contemporary design process provide a substation for the presentation of contemporary proposals for architectural expertise and architecture education.
