Miran tribe and Mustafa Pasha

The purpose of this thesis is to demonstrate the historical status and effect of Miran Tribe to the region and to introduce Mustafa Pasha and his leadership in the region; also, to lay the role of Miran Tribe and Mustafa Pasha on Hamidiye Regiments and to fill the present history literature gap by explaning the tribes which have powerful effects in the region and which are revealing the role of the Miran Tribe under the leadership of Mustafa on Hamidiye Regiments. Even though these regiments were established to provide regional security and state authority, many times, they were getting out of the control and turning into tribal power struggles. In the first part, information about banditry and Hamidiye Regiments is given. In this respect, the tribal structure among the Kurds and the effects of the tribes on the region are mentioned. Furthermore, by referring to the concept of banditry and its activities, the relations between the tribe and the banditry are discussed. In conclusion, the effects of the regiments on the tribes and the bandits are examined by focused on the establishment and the purposes of Hamidiye Regiments. In the second part, the Miran Tribe and its leader Mustafa Pasha are revealed. The structure of Miran tribe is handled by explaining its domain and how it could be a regional power. In addition to the fact that Mustafa Pasha was the leader of the tribe, he carried out banditry movements. After all, he got involved Hamidiye Regiments. His activities and their reflections after he got involved the Hamidiye Regiments are discussed. In this study, a detailed literature review is conducted, and many documents related to the Miran tribe and Mustafa Pasha from the Prime Ministry Ottoman Archives are analyzed. As a result of investigated resources, it has been revealed that the Hamidiye Regiments had reached the goals of Ottoman Empire in great extent and the leader of Miran Tribe Mustafa Pasha had strengthened his domination by abusing the power that had given to him by the state.
