Abstract (EN)
The relationship between architecture and culture continues from the time of antiquity until today by embodying its existance. Architecture culture is seen in all disciplines and works in which architecture and culture are connected. In the study "Architecture and Culture: Shigeru Ban as a Design Strategy", the study of the literature and the exemplary of the works of Ban, the architectural design technology and the local and universal impact of Ban on architecture and culture with his sustainable aspect are examined. In the study, the concepts of architecture and culture, which are examined theoretically, interact with each other. The change takes place mutually and universally. Many factors such as user needs and wishes in the history, aesthetic tastes, the way of describing nature, politics, financial concerns, material change have shaped the culture. These interactions in culture have also occured in architecture. The culture, which enables mankind to connect with nature, will continue to live in the direction which design technology progresses. The architecture, which embodies the culture between mankind and nature, has a large impact in the ecological matter. As soon as the ecosystem begins to get harmed, the human begins to get harmed too. Sustainability and sustainable architecture are important on this way. In the study, Shigeru Ban's impact on sustainable architecture and human life with his own design material (paper tube) and design technology by interpreting the traditional Japanese architectural culture to our daily life is examined. The discourse of 'belonging to nature" in traditional Japanese culture is seen in Ban's architectural strategy. Ban makes the architecture culture universal without separating mankind and nature. It is aimed to emphasize what Ban did for the mankind by thinking and designing.
