Abstract (EN)
Aim: The aim of this study was to evaluate the amount of residuel monomer released from composite resins prepared with modeling liquid. Materials and Methods: Filtek Ultimate Universal (3M™ ESPE™ St. Paul, USA) composite resin was prepared by creating four different groups using different modeling liquids [Group GM: GC Modeling Liquid (GC Corparation, Tokyo,Japan ) , Group BM: Bisco Modeling Resin (Bisco, Schaumburg, IL USA), Group SB: Adper Single Bond 2 Adhesive (3M™ ESPE™ St. Paul, USA) and Control Group: No modeling liquid application]. The samples were prepared in two layers, and the modeling liquid was applied only to the upper part of the layers. No application was made to the control group. A total of 48 composite discs with a diameter of 5 mm and a thickness of 2 mm were prepared in each group, and they were immersed in a 75% ethanol/water solution. The residual monomer content of bisphenol A diglycidyl ether methacrylate (Bis-GMA), urethane dimethacrylate (UDMA), and triethylene glycol dimethacrylate (TEGDMA) in the extraction solutions taken on Day 1, Day 15, and Day 30 was evaluated using high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC). The data were analyzed using the Tukey test, One-Way and Repeated Measures Analysis of Variance (p < 0.05). Results: There was no statistically significant difference observed in the total residual monomer release amounts among all groups (p=0.753). There was no statistical difference between the groups in the total amount of UDMA release (0.049). However, a statistically significant difference was detected in the release amounts of total Bis-GMA and TEGMA monomers (p < 0.01). The residual monomer release was highest on Day 1 for each monomer and reached the lowest level by the end of Day 30. At the end of the 15th and 30th days, TEGDMA release could not be detected in all groups. Conclusion: Resin monomers within modeling liquids can increase the release amount of the respective monomer. Within the limitations of our study, different modeling liquid applications do not affect the total residual monomer amounts of all monomers.
