The reception of myths related to women in modern Turkish literature (1923-2023)

This thesis focuses on the use of mythological women and myths associated with women published texts in modern Turkish literature between 1923-2023. This study focuses on the methods in which women were mentioned in mythology and myths associated with women are called into texts. This study uses feminist myth criticism, which appears within feminist literary criticism and text centered reading methods. In the surface structure of the texts, myths are interpreted. In the texts, points like what women that were mentioned in mythology and myths related to women were used as indicators, how they were interpreted and what descriptions in texts of contexts they were placed in the those texts were closely observed. Despite there are no certain boundaries it has been determined, women who were summoned from the texts of early 1980's, where direct uses are intense, were represented as they existed in patriarchal mythology. In these texts, myths related to women continue the masculine consciousness with a theme parallel to the social position of women. After 1980, mythical of women who were rewritten differently from the women in mythology especially with the support of postmodernism are seen. In this period, with postmodern literature, deconstruction, criticism of patriarchal myths ve their rewriting, women myths stories are reflected in texts in different aspects. Mythological stories that surround women with pejorative, secondary, negative and evil adjectives are transformed and subverted with different perspectives in these texts. With this aspect, with the reflection of myths related to women that are seen in these texts, the transformation of texts after 1980's became notable. This thesis aims to contribute to the literature that is related to women.
