Özet (EN)

In this thesis, the effect of induction heating on the self-healing of asphalt mixture test specimens containing waste metal and styrene-butadiene-styrene (SBS) modified bitumen was evaluated. In addition, the effects of waste metals used instead of aggregate in asphalt mixtures on the mechanical properties of asphalt mixtures were determined. For this purpose, two different (hot scaling (HMS) and cold scaling (CMS)) waste metal in two different percentages (instead of 50% and 100% aggregate) and two different percentages (2% and 100% aggregate) were used to create prismatic and Marshall asphalt test samples. Asphalt mixtures were prepared using 3% SBS. Induction heating systems were used to determine self-healing properties. The samples were heated in four different heating times as 40sec, 60sec, 80sec, 100sec and 120sec in both methods. To measure the efficiency of the recovery process, five recovery cycles were performed for each asphalt sample. The main results are that the hardness, load repetitions and fatigue life of the mixtures decrease as the waste metal usage ratio in the asphalt mixtures increases. In addition, the improvement level decreased with each improvement cycle applied to asphalt mixtures. It is assumed that air voids in the mixture also play an important role in the self-healing of asphalt mixtures, while increasing the internal pressure and mobility of the bitumen during the heating process. In addition, 2 different thicknesses (5mm and 10mm) of ice and a single (15mm) thickness of snow were formed on the surface of the mixture samples containing waste metal prepared in the laboratory, and the effect of snow and ice on the melting of the hot bituminous mixtures was determined. Ice remained at about 10°C. After 120 s of induction heating, the highest temperature on the upper surface of the asphalt mixture reached 55.2°C. This result proved that induction heating has no or little heating effect on ice. When it comes to the snow melting test, it has been determined that the most effective scale in the melting process is cold scale scale. While the average melting rate of the 2CMS5 mixture is 0.3300 g/min, the average melting rate of the 3CMS5 mixture is 0.3383 g/min. While 3CMS10 mixture gave the highest average melting rate, 2HMS5 mixture gave the lowest average melting rate. Finally, the general binding and rheological properties of SBS modified binders were evaluated.
