Abstract (EN)

The Master's Thesis titled "Comparative Cataloging of Women's Headdress in Muğla Milas Çomakdağı and Rize Hemşin Regions" involved field visits to both regions, where oral interviews were conducted. The research's literature evaluations revealed that, despite modifications, the traditional structure of Anatolian women's headdresses has remained mainly unchanged across their 8000-year history. Due to the traditional nature stemming from the of secluded lifestyle rural areas, a significant change in women's headgear, especially in rural regions, has not been observed. The most distinctive type of headgear that has survived to the current day is the woman's headgear, which has been worn like a fez since the time of the Mother Goddess Cybele. A long headscarf hangs down from the headpiece. The plain headband adorned with plant rosettes has been in use since the time of the Hittites. Women's headgear is the most important component of their dress, which is determined by cultural rules moulded by beliefs, traditions, and rituals. With industrialization leading to the disappearance of traditional life, the widespread urbanization, and the decline of traditional weaving, traditional clothing has been phased out of everyday use and stored away. For the preservation of traditional values, it is vital to document the current method of attaching headscarves, which is still practised today due to tourism or a sense of cultural identity. Identifying the current headscarf-tying technique is important to introduce and preserve traditional values, leave a cultural legacy for the next generation, and provide documentation for future generations. In the application of the thesis, written and printed materials pertaining to this subject were examined. Fieldwork was carried out in Konaklar and Subaşı Villages in Rize Hemşin from August 18 to 22, 2023, and in Muğla Milas Çomakdağı from April 18 to 20, 2022. Interviews with relevant individuals yielded information, and the best-chosen images from indoor and outdoor environments were assessed in the thesis.
