Music teacher candidates' views on the preschool music education proficiency

The purpose of this research is to survey the views of the music teacher trainees about the proficiencies on the preschool music education. The screening model has been used for this research. The study group for the thesis is based on 590 students from the 4th grades of the following schools who are studying in the music educating departments within the fine arts during the academic year of 2019 – 2020: Dokuz Eylül University, PamukkaleUniversity, MuğlaSıtkıKoçmanUniversity, BalıkesirUniversity, BoluAbantİzzetBaysalUniversity, GaziUniversity, Burdur Mehmet AkifErsoyUniversity, Samsun OndokuzMayısUniversity, Van YüzüncüyılUniversity, UludağUniversity, İnönüUniversity, Konya Necmettin Erbakan University, GaziosmanpaşaUniversity, Marmara University, Harran University, CumhuriyetUniversity, Adnan Menderes University, Atatürk University, AksarayUniversity, NiğdeÖmerHalisdemirUniversity, TrakyaUniversity, ÇanakkaleUniversity. The datum in the survey collects all from a personal information form, Likert type questionnaire with 5 piece consisting 34 statements and 2 open end question forms. The collected data about the sub-problems that we seek answers to has been analysed through statistically with the help of the program. The views of the participants on the PME (Preschool Music Education) have been evaluated through Mann Whitney U test for discovering whether there were differences in their view according to the variables; and to discover the level of their views, arithmetical averages ofthe answers to the statements were taken as well as the frequencies and the percentage values.The qualitative datum has been made into a table using content analysis method. According to the datum from the research, it is discovered that the trainees to be music teachers evaluate themselves as proficientin the field of PME. Within the views there is a significant difference for the favour of the women teacher trainees. The majority of the future teachers involved in the research do not have the experience in the preschool education institutions according to the results reached.It is suggested that for the future music teachers to have experience in the preschool institutions, the content and the extent of the school experience lectures for the four year programs must be developed more.
