Music preservice teachers' perspectives towards the importance and necessity of accompaniment with piano

The purpose of the study is to identify music preservice teachers' perspectives towards the importance and necessity of accompaniment with piano and to indicate whether these perspectives differ significantly according to the gender, the kind of the graduated high school, course grade, and "accompaniment playing"course success.Descriptive survey model is benefited in the study. The participants of the study are 318 3rd and 4th grades music preservice teachers between 2017-2018 academic years studying at Balıkesir University, Cumhuriyet University, Çanakkale Onsekiz Mart University, Karadeniz Technical University, Marmara University, Mehmet Akif Ersoy University, Niğde Ömer Halisdemir University, Pamukkale University, and Uludağ University. The data were collected through "The Scale Towards the Importance and Necessity of Accompaniment with Piano" developed by Kurtuldu (2016). The cronbach's alpha of the scale towards the importance and necessity of accompaniment with piano was found to be .89. Data were analyzed through SPSS (Statistical Packet for Social Sciences). During data analysis frequency, percentage, arithmetic average, standard deviation, median, Mann-Whitney U test, Kruskal-Wallis H test, and Dunn's test were used. The results of the study reveal that music preservice teachers' perspectives towards the importance and necessity of accompaniment with piano are mostly highly positive. There has not been a significant difference in music preservice teachers' perspectives towards the importance and necessity of accompaniment with piano according to the gender, the kind of the graduated high school, and course grade. However, there has been a significant difference according to the participants' "accompaniment playing" course success. While the most significant difference were between the participants getting the highest grades and the lowest grades, in general there has been a positive correlation between the participants "accompaniment playing" course success and their general scale points.
