Examination of orchestral/chamber music education process in the institutions that train music teachers

The aim of this study was to determine the differences and similarities between departments in orchestra / chamber music course in music education institutions; to contribute to Orchestra / Chamber Music course by examining the findings related to the planning, implementation and evaluation stages of the course in accordance with the opinions of the instructors of the Orchestra / Chamber Music course. The research is a descriptive study using qualitative research methods. The study group of the research Burdur Mehmet Akif Ersoy University (MAKU), Muğla Sıtkı Koçman University (MSKU), Gazi University (GU), Harran University (HU), Karadeniz Technical University (KTU), Ondokuz Mayıs University (OMU), Pamukkale University (PAU) ), Balıkesir University (BAÜN) and Bolu Abant İzzet Baysal University (AİBÜ) consists of the lecturers who conducted Orchestra / Chamber Music course in music teaching departments in 2018-2019 academic year. A standardized open-ended interview form was used, which included demographic information and interview questions regarding the processing stages of the Orchestra / Chamber Music course; data were analyzed using content analysis. According to the results of the research, it is seen that there is a problem of numerical equilibrium in the distribution of instruments in the orchestra, the instrument levels, technical and musical levels of the students are inadequate, there are problems arising from the inadequacy of the physical conditions, the hours are insufficient, and the repertoire problems are experienced from time to time due to lack of resources. Suggestions were made to contribute to the music education process and to reduce the problems in the course.
