Abstract (EN)
With the papyrology studies, which gained speed particularly at the beginning of the 20th century, researchers have evaluated social, economical, political and historical aspects of a vast region- with Egypt in the center- belonging to different historical ages. Of these discoveries done in various years, one of the most noteworthy finds are the ones found in now Eşkû in Egypt. These have put light on many things concerning Early Islamic era in Egypt. And in these finds, 115 letters belonging to Kurre b. Şerik, who was Umayyads' Egypt Governer for five years, are particularly of great importance in terms of history and filology. Nabia Abbott, a representative of historic approach to papyrology, makes comments on taxation, administration and justice mechanism and religious position firstly in the late Byzantine era and then early Islamic era in Egypt by putting five Kurre letters in the Oriental Institute of Chicago University in the center and by making use of other papyri as well. In our study, we evaluated her comments by sometimes supporting these and sometimes criticising by means of comparisons.
