The transhumance activities in the Autonomous Republic of Nakhchivan and comparison with the transhumance of Antalya

In this study, primarily the transhumance in the Zengezur Mountains, which starts in the north-west of the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic of Azerbaijan and advances along the Armenian border towards the south-east is discussed. It was examined how the transhumance, which is a part of the Central Asian Turkish lifestyle, was shaped under physical and human geographical conditions in the study area. There are no enough researchers about transhumance in Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic, considering this information were decended in the area and with the help of travel-observation and question-answer methods to the plateau descent-exit dates, plateau distribution, information about the use of housing types and functions were obtained. With a few exceptions, the plateaus are still mainly used for traditional purposes in the area where the study was conducted. Additionally, there is a decrease in the number of people going up the plateaus but as a result of the increase in the number of farms and the conduct of this work by certain individuals, the number of animals brought to the plateau remained unchanged and the share of the plateaus in supplying the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic with meat and animal products was still very high. In the work of later stages there is given information about transhumance in Beydagları which is situated in Antalya, in Republic of Turkey. Due to the fact that there are enough studies in the literature, although the literature is mainly used to provide this information, a few plateaus close to the city of Antalya have been visited for observation purposes. Referring to the data is seen that , the highlands in Beydagları as in other regions of Turkey undergo functional change or are in the process of change. In the last half century, the touristic potential of the Teke coastal zone has been triggered by this situation, and with the increase in the income level of the people living in the developing and growing cities, the highlands, which are close to the big settlements, have become the frequented places of the people fleeing from the hot and crowded cities in summer. In the last stage of the study, the comparison of the transhumance in the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic and the transhumance in the Antalya Beydağ Mountains was made and the effects of natural and human environmental factors on the life style and culture were revealed. Although it was done under different conditions, it was observed that the main lines of the transhumance culture were preserved in both study areas.
