Sentence in Namık kemal`s novels

ABSTRACT "Sentence in Namık Kemal's Novels" Muna Yüceol ÖZEZEN Doctoral Dissertation, Turkish Language and Literature Departmant Supervisor: Assoc. Prof. Dr. Mehmet ÖZMEN Year: 2000, XXfl + 702 Our study consists of syntax analyse of "Cezmi" and "intibah", the novels by Namık Kemal, who is one of the writers of Tanzimat age. We conducted our study on the scripts that haven't been transleted into Turkish, because we thought it was the only way of reaching reliable information. Our study starts with an 'Introduction' part. We formed the 'Introduction' part in a different way from similiar studies. Here, we mainly worked on main problems of syntax both in narrow and wide meaning, term differentiation and on different aspects in sources. While doing this, we aimed not to study it in the 'Analysis' part or; at least to study it in a minimal level. The most important part of our study is the 'Analysis ' part. Here we sequenced our headings about our statements on ' Cezmi' and 'intibah' under the main heading 'Statements and Interpretation' as pro- headings ' Types of Sentences', 'Cezmi and intibah in the View of Other Subjects About Sentence'. We did our analyses a descriptive way. By doing this we didin't leave a sentence in the text without elaboration. In 'Types of Sentences" part, we worked on sentences according to their 'main verbs', 'meanings' and 'structures'.We analized sentences 'according to their main verbs' as 'according to their types of verbs: verbal sentence, nominal sentence' in pro- headings. We found that verbal sentences were more than nominal sentences, and statement sentences were more than anacoluthon sentences in number. We analized sentences 'according to their meanings' as 'negative and interrogative sentences'. Sentences according to their structures were catagorized into two types as 'simple sentence', 'compound sentence: coordinate, depended compound, compound sentence with ki conjuntion, sequenced sentence, conditional, compound sentence with pharentesis and complex sentence'. The mostly used type of sentence in 'Cezmi' and 'intibah' is 'comlex' and the least used type of sentence is 'compound sentence with pharentesis'. In 'Cezmi and intibah in the View of Other Subjects About Sentence' we worked on 'componance', 'communicative elements out of the text', 'pro-sentences', 'sentences in the view of the text', 'elliptical sentences', 'irregular sentences', ' anomy among sentence elements'. The second heading of 'Analysis' part is 'conclusion'. Also here, we sequnenced our findings and statements in a short way. The final part of our study is 'Index Text1. 'Index Text' is texts about structurally parted sentences of 'Cezmi' and 'intibah' novels. One number is given to every simple, compound and complex sentence and to every communicative element which is not a sentence.
