Investigation of fig latex and ficin enzyme encapsulated in nanoliposomes on HT-29 human colon cancer cell line

Abstract (EN)

Objective: The aim of this study is to examine the antiproliferative effects of fig latex and ficin enzyme encapsulated in nanoliposomes on HT-29 human colon cancer cell line. Material and Methods: The research was carried out with latex obtained from Sarı Lop and Aydın Siyahı fig cultivars and commercially purchased fisin enzyme. Fig latex and ficin enyzme were encapsulated in nanoliposomes by thin-film hydration method and their characteristics were determined. Finally, the cytotoxic and apoptic effects of the prepared liposomes were investigated on the HT-29 human colon cancer cell line. Results: As a result of the size analysis, nanoliposomes could not be obtained in the desired size ranges and zeta potential values. Polydispersity index was found in accordance with the values stated in the literature. Fisin enzyme and fig latex showed cytotoxic effect on HT-29 cell line. A highly reduced cytotoxic effect was observed in liposomal fisin and fig latex. An increased level of apoptosis was observed in fisin enzyme and fig latex compared to the medium used as the control group. Significant changes in apoptosis levels were not detected in liposomal ficin and fig latex. Conclusion: It was determined that liposomal encapsulation highly masked the toxic effect in both ficin enzyme and fig latex. It has been observed that fig latex, ficin enzyme and liposomal formulations may be suitable candidates in studies in the field of health.
