Abstract (EN)

The short story, which aims to depict reality and elucidate the issues and events experienced and deemed significant by society, is considered one of the widely recognized artistic forms that have recently entered the field of literature. It has occupied an important position among an elite group of short story writers who have succeeded in reaching the highest levels in contemporary literature, addressing themes that guide humanity toward progress and development, and it has maintained a prominent presence in the literary field. Short stories are replete with connotations and symbols that serve the author's ideas and objectives. They consist of a series of elements—such as setting, time, characters, and events—that form the overall structure of the text. One of the authors distinguished by his technical and intellectual skills in short story writing is Mustafa Taj al-Din al-Musa, the author of the short story collection Sâidûnâ 'alâ at-Takhlûs min ash-Shu'arâ (Help Us to Get Rid of the Poets). In this collection of 74 stories, al-Musa depicts, alongside realistic scenes from the worlds of prominent characters, the full extent of the savagery and madness of war within deliberate narrative conflicts. In fact, the most significant impact of the war on this collection is reflected in the characters' relationships with their memories, past experiences, and childhoods. Although most of the stories revolve around the Syrian war and its aftermath, it should not be overlooked that the work addresses a global readership. The study examines the forms and narrative techniques that Mustafa Taj al-Din al-Musa employed while composing his stories, focusing on narrative methods and short story types rather than thematic perspectives, both in the context of Syria in particular and modern Arabic literature in general. The stories exhibit the use of various narrative techniques, including black humor, depiction of death in every story, pessimism, flashbacks, foreshadowing, acceleration and deceleration of narrative pace, metaphorical settings, real and peaceful settings, open and closed settings, imaginary settings, and direct and indirect presentation of characters. A structural and analytical approach was adopted as the research methodology. Keywords: Arabic Rhetoric, Short Stories, Mustafa Taj al-Din al-Musa, Sâidûnâ 'alâ at-Takhlûs min ash-Shu'arâ, Narrative Techniques.
