An important milestone on the way to naturalistic acting: Eric Morris

Currently there are many methods used for acting education. The Stanislavski "system" beginning a naturalist/realistic approach to acting evolved into method acting with Lee Strasberg in the 1930s in America. The focus of this thesis study, Eric Morris, moved from studies by Stanislavski and Strasberg to form the foundations of the current contemporary naturalist acting method. The introduction section of the study researches the journey to naturalist acting from the period of Ancient Greece to the Stanislavski "system" developed in the 19th century, identifying naturalist/realist elements within the historical process. The first section comprising two headings initially investigates Stanislavski's acting system. In this section of the study the focus is naturalist acting, dealing with the psychological action method encompassing studies by the director in the early period. The second subheading investigates the point at which method acting developed based on Strasberg's system of acting and Stanislavski separate. The second section of the thesis first investigates Eric Morris' biography, and identifies elements determining development of acting methods. Then BEING, the craft process and the ultimate consciousness stages forming Morris' acting system are researched separately. The more important habits forming these stages are selected and investigated in detail. In the conclusion section, there is a general overview of naturalist acting, and the possibility of using Eric Morris' techniques for acting education in the present day is evaluated.
