Analysis of Necil Kâzim Akses' composition "Acıklı Ezgi" for solo viola from a technical and musical perspective

This research contributes to the literature by examining the piece Acıklı Ezgi, which was composed by Necil Kâzım Akses, who developed an innovative approach to Turkish music and is one of the most important figures in the history of Turkish music with its productivity, in terms of technique and music, its place in educational music programs and a detailed analysis of the piece. aims to provide Akses has written three works for the viola instrument. The most famous of these is the Viola Concerto (1977). He also composed two other works for solo viola, Capriccio (1978) and his least known piece, Acıklı Ezgi (1984). At the same time, his work named Acıklı Ezgi, which is also the subject of this study, has the quality of being a work in the taste of lament, which is composed of dramatic folk melodies. In line with the research on the work, it was first examined in terms of form, and it is seen that it was written in the form of "A-B-A". It has been seen that the use of Acıklı Ezgi in the piece is "A- B1- B2- A Variation". When the sentence structures of the work are examined, it is concluded that it consists of 41 sentences and 303 strokes. According to the results of the scale analysis of the work, it was concluded that the work has an unusual tonal structure and has a character with its own unique tonal scales. Akses, which modernized Turkish music, also aimed to preserve the essence of this music. Continuing to work throughout his life to ensure that Turkish music and Turkish culture are recognized and appreciated around the world, Akses When his work named Acıklı Ezgi is examined, it is seen that there are 15 different series, and it is understood that the striking Divan music elements are felt in these series, but they are not used in the full sense. Since the elements of Divan music were not written with comas, recommendations were made to play them according to the "Just Intonation" intonation system used today, and the right- and left-hand techniques used in the work were mentioned. In the explanations for the musical interpretation, which is the last part of the findings section, recommendations were made during the performance of the piece. This study was written with the aim of being the first written source for Necil Kâzım Akses' Acıklı Ezgi piece composed for viola, as well as being a reference source for artists who want to sing the piece.
