Emotions Nef?î Dîvâni

The Turkish word ?duygu? is equivalent with the word ?emotion? in English. Emotion means dynamic energy. According to this description emotions are regarded as the energy which enables humans to sustain their life. Emotions seem to express themselves not one-by-one but with the other emotions. There is always a connection between them. Nef?î, is one of the greatest poets of the XVIIth century. He is shown as one of the six greatest poets of Divan Literature (classical Ottoman poetry). He is accepted as one of the poets who represent Sebk-i Hindi in Turkish literature. The real name of Nef?î, who has shown the success to develop a specific poem style to himself, is Ömer. He was born in Pasinler (Hasankale) town of Erzurum. In spite of having a considerable number of lyrical ghazels Nef?î, who has no distinctive innovation, is known as the strongest qasida poet. In his qasidas there are two important features. These are eulogy and burlesque.In his Divan there are some noticeable emotions in general. Poet?s character, growing up without a father, and his extreme inborn self-confidence can be juxtaposed as the reasons for these emotions. In Nef?î Divan- especially in his qasidas- emotions like extreme self-praise, selfishness, arrogance show themselves intensely.
