Contributions of Nevşehir Hacı Bektaş Veli University to the urban economy

In this thesis, the contributions of Nevşehir Hacı Bektaş Veli University to the economy of Nevşehir province are analyzed through both quantitative and qualitative data. The main aim of the research is to reveal the direct and indirect effects of university students and the university's overall activities on the urban economy. In this context, data obtained from a survey conducted with university students were used to examine in detail the students' monthly expenditure items (such as food, accommodation, transportation, clothing, cultural activities, etc.), and the total economic magnitude of these expenditures was calculated. In addition, whether expenditure levels differ according to demographic variables such as gender, family income, and educational status was tested through statistical analyses. The findings indicate that university students create significant economic activity in the city and generate considerable demand, especially in the service, housing, and transportation sectors. The presence of the university contributes to the city not only through direct expenditures but also through indirect effects such as job creation, the development of local businesses, and socio-cultural vitality. As a result, it has been determined that the university's contribution to the Nevşehir economy holds strategic importance in terms of sustainable development. The research findings offer recommendations for local governments and policymakers to strengthen university-city cooperation and to develop student-friendly policies.
