Ney performer Hakan Alvan, his life contributions to Turkish music and his works

Turkish religious music is a music genre performed mostly in mosques and dervish lodges pursuant to traditions. No instruments are used in religious forms performed in mosques however, in lodges of religious orders including the Mevlevis, the Halvetis, the Jerrahis and the Bektashis, instruments are used in performance. This type of performance involving utilization of instruments has reached the present day as a tradition, through master-apprentice relationship. Particularly the Jerrahi order, which has been derived from the Halveti order, has continued its existence as a cultural institution since 1925. Ney Performer Hakan Alvan, who has been educated in accordance with religious music tradition of this institution, is among contemporary composers who composes music in various forms based on Sufi traditions. This study defines forms of lodge music in detail under the title of "Lodge Music" and mentions traditions of the Halveti order as well as the Jerrahi order (an order derived from the Halveti order).
