Nikolai Kapustin and op. 40 investigation of 8 concert etudes in terms of musical, technical and form

Among the works that make up the piano literatüre, the etudes are assumed to be the indispensable parts of the repertoires of today's pianists. Etudes are very important in piano education, the main purpose of which is to develop technival abilities and lay the ground for the techinical and musical achievements that performers need. The etudes, which started in the 19th century, later devoloped and became concert pieces. Developments in the field of etud started at the end of the 20th century and have become a frequently preferred part of concert repertoires today.Nikolai Kapustin was born in Ukraine in 1937, died in Russia in 2020 due to Covid-19. The composer graduated from the Moscow Conservatory and is famous for his jazz-style works. He preferred to play jazz-style pieces with notes rather than improvise them.Kapustin has written many works in etude form and these works are frequently featured in pianists programs today. The etude series written by the composer (op.40 1984) consists of eight concert etudes and demands technical skills from the performer. The purpose of this research is Kapustin's op. 40 to examine 8 concert etudes in detail in form and musical and to reveal how a composer living in our period blended classical style with jazz music style. The universe of the research is Nikolai Kapustin, and the samples consists of 8 concert etudes of the op.40 series.In order to address the subject in general, information was given about the composer's general life, musical career and works. Composers who have written etudes until today are handled and brief information is given about the history of the etud and its development. The research is within the framework of qualitative research and has been examined on the basis of the scanning model. In the research, items such as sentences, dynamics and form structure in the works were explained and reflected on the tables.This research was conducted by professional pianists and piano-trained students Nikolai Kapustin's op. 40 It offers explanatory tables and musical score parties to help them analyze 8 concert etudes better, perform them well-equipped, and see which studies are in the technical skills required to be developed, so it is aimed to help them as a guide while choosing the works.
