Abstract (EN)
Introduction: The variation of coronary artery diameter (CAD) can be seen among the healthy population. It is known that some physiologic and pathologic cases influence the CAD. But the studies so far about CAD is limited. It is not ethical to perform coronary angiography to people with normal coronary artery. Because of that it is not possible to find out the real diameter values of the normal population. We could not reach any international study published about the Turkish population. Purpose: Our purpose is to find out the average CAD values of the people with the normal coronary artery in our coronary angiography laboratory and to compare the data with demographic qualities and relationship of CAD within itself. Methods and Materials: In this study at our interventional cardiology laboratory the angiographies of 136 patients with the ages from 25 to 78 (average age 54±9) who have normal coronary artery are evaluated and after exclusion criteria 100 patients were taken in the study. 47 of the patients (%47) were men (with the average age 50±8.5) and 53 of them (%53) were women (with the average age 57±8.2). The demographic and clinical qualities of the patients were evaluated. The diameters of LMCA, proximal LAD, CXA, RCA were measured with quantitative coronary angiography (QCA) method. The average values of CAD, the relationship between CAD and gender, age, coronary artery dominance, body surface area, height, weight and body mass index were examined together with the CAD? s among themselves. Results: The results of QCA measures of LMCA, LAD, CXA and RCA average diameters are given in order as 4.41±mm, 3.45±0.5mm, 3.29±0.5mm, 3.14±0.6mm in men; 4.15 ±0.5mm, 3.29±0.5mm, 3.03±0.5mm, 3.07±0.6mm in women and 4.27±0.58, 3.36±0.53mm, 3.15±0.54mm, 3.11±0.52mm in all patients. The results don?t show any outstanding relationship between the age groups, men and women patients (after the correction with the BSA) from the aspect of CAD. The results show no significance between BSA, height, weight, BMİ and CAD. The diameter of LMCA and diameter of LAD, CXA and LAD+CXA had a serious correlation [in the given order (r=0.683, p<0.0001), (r=0,472, p<0.0001), (r=0.672, p<0.0001)]. This correlation could be statistically verified. The moderate correlation between LMCA and RCA diameters only in right dominant patient group could be seen (r=0.305, p<0.05). The RCA diameter was found more in the right dominant patients than left and co-dominant patients (p<0.002). A moderate correlation was found between LAD diameter and CXA , RCA diameters [in the given order ( r=0.467, p<0.0001)]. There is no correlation found between RCA and CXA. Conclusion: It is concluded that there is no relation between CAD and the patients? gender, age, BSA, height, weight, BMI. RCA diameter was found considerably more in the right dominant group then the others. It is also concluded that there is a strong correlation between LMCA diameter and LAD, CXA, LAD+CXA diameters especially noticeable in left dominant group. Our results are in acceptable correlation with the studies carried out in the other countries.
