The evaluation of normal and risky pregnant women to the adaptation of motherhood in postpartum period

Abstract (EN)
This is a descriptive and comparative study that was conducted to evaluate the adaptation of normal and risky pregnant women to the motherhood in postpartum period and to determine the related in factors.The study was conducted in between February 2018-August 2018 in history a Training and Research Hospital in Ankara. The study sample consisted of 422 mothers with children aged 0-3 who were admitted to pediatric and obstetrics outpatient clinics (normal pregnancy = 211, risky pregnancy = 211). As a means of collecting data, The Being a Mother Scale (BAM-13) and Mother İntroducing Form were used. Mann Whitney U Test, Kruskal Wallis H Test, Independent Samples t Test, Chi-Square and Fisher's Exact Test were used to analyze the data. The research participant, the average age of the mothers who had normal pregnancy was 25.99 ± 3.94 and the mean age of mothers with risky pregnancy was been determined 29.42 ± 6.32. It was found that the groups were similar in terms of their education, employment, income and social assurance status and employment and education status their spouses. There were statistically significant differences between the study groups in terms of average number of pregnancies and the number of children, history of miscarriage, the time interval between previous pregnancy and present pregnancy, willingness and planning of pregnancy, the type of birth, and having problems on their own and babies in postpartum period (p˂0.05). The mean scores of to Being a mother Scale was found to be 9.31 ± 6.06 in mothers who had normal pregnancy and 9.92 ± 5.84 in those who risky pregnancy and there were no statistically significant differences between the groups (p>0.05). It was determined that the perception of economic status had affected the adaptation of normal and risky pregnant women to the motherhood. Hospitalization of the risky pregnancy mothers and the desired gender of expected baby have been found to affect the adaptation of motherhood. It was determined that the adaptation of motherhood has been affected from getting help for chores and baby care as well as having health problems in the mothers who had normal pregnancies (p<0.05). As a result of the research, it can be suggested that motherhood adaptations of mothers who have normal and risky pregnancies were similar.
