Abstract (EN)

Aim: This study aimed to evaluate the effects of centrifugation, a commonly used procedure in IVF laboratories, on sperm functional parameters in normospermic men. Materials and Methods: The study included 50 normospermic patients who were admitted to the Urology Clinic of Dicle University Hospital. Semen samples were subjected to centrifugation at speeds of 1000 rpm and 1600 rpm. Post-centrifugation, sperm motility, morphology, viability, and DNA fragmentation parameters were analyzed. Results: In sperm selection using the gradient method, centrifugation at 1000 rpm and 1600 rpm showed no statistically significant impact on sperm parameters, including motility, morphology, viability, and DNA fragmentation. These findings suggest that different centrifugation speeds do not substantially alter the effectiveness of sperm selection. Both speeds can be safely utilized in clinical applications. Conclusion: The results indicate that centrifugation speeds of 1000 rpm and 1600 rpm do not negatively affect sperm quality. These findings support the idea that standardization of centrifugation speeds in IVF laboratories can be flexible without compromising sperm quality. This study contributes to the literature regarding the effects of centrifugation speeds on sperm quality, providing insights for safe and efficient laboratory practices.
