Abstract (EN)
This study was conducted to examine the relationship between assignment frequency and duration of homework and academic achievement in 4th grade mathematics class. The type of this study, in which the variables of mathematics achievement, assignment frequency and duration of homework are examined, is the relational survey model. The working group of the research TIMSS 2015 to participate in Korea, Turkey, Iran and Kuwait constitute 4th grade students of the country. These countries examined in the study were randomly selected from TIMSS success categories. Korea 4644, 6456 from Turkey, Iran, 3757, a total of 18 248 students, including 3391 data were used from Kuwait and teachers of these students. The data are obtained from TIMSS 2015 mathematics achievement test and teacher questionnaires. The prediction level of homework frequency and duration of homework on TIMSS 2015 mathematics achievement was analyzed using multiple linear regression analysis. As a result of the study, it was found that the frequency of assigning homework is not generally related to mathematics academic achievement. It has been observed that student success decreases when homework is given every day and once or twice a week in Iran. Each country has its own ideal homework frequency. Another problem of the study, the relationship between homework time and mathematics achievement varies from country to country. While there was no relationship between Korea and the other countries surveyed success with math homework time in Iran, in Turkey, in the range of 31-60 minutes decreased in student achievement, increased student achievement in 16-30 minute intervals in Kuwait. There is no common ideal time for homework for every country. Ideal homework times vary from country to country.
