Özet (EN)

Today, the training of individuals who produce, criticize, question and respect different opinions, is possible with an education that focuses on holistic development in both cognitive and artistic domains. The visual art course is one of the important areas that enables children to grow up as balanced individuals with the help of the activities like researching, analyzing, exploring, interpreting and producing creative products in accordance with the pace of individual development. In this research, it is aimed to examine factors affecting the quality of primary-school-visual-art course, activities, problems and suggestions for solutions to these problems based on the opinions and experiences of students, teachers and parents with a phenomenological approach. In the research, phenomenology research pattern was used in the framework of qualitative research approach. The study group consists of six students from fourth grade in the primary schools from the Gaziantep province and their tearchers and parents. The research data was collected from two sessions of semi-structured interviews, student diaries and lesson plans. The collected data was analyzed and interpreted by the content analysis method. As a result of this research, the opinions of students, teachers and parents were that the visual art course was necessary and important. But the ideas about the purposes and benefits of this course were limited. Class teachers see themselves as inadequate for visual art course, and because of some problems such as limited classroom time, environment, equipment and inadequate classes, the activities are limited to painting sessions. Therefore the aims of the visual art course cannot be achieved. At the end of the research, suggestions of the students, teachers and parents involved were increasing the number of hours of visual art courses, changing the content of the lesson, employing branch teachers for the course, arranging workshops in schools, reducing classroom population, developing teacher guidebooks and including visual art in high school and university entrance exams. Keywords: Art Education, Primary School, Visual Art Course, Parent, Classroom Teacher, Phenomenology.
