Abstract (EN)
The aim of this study is to determine the burnout levels of instructors according to the dimesions of burnout and total burnout and to analyse their perceptions of burnout dimensions according to the sex, age, marital status, the number of children, the length of occupational service, educational level and title variables. For this reason, Maslach Burnout Inventory developed by Maslach and Jackson in 1981 and Personal Data Inventory prepared by the researcher were conducted to 231 instructors working at Education Faculty, Science and Letters Faculty, Management and Business Administration Faculty, Engineering and Architecture Faculty and Faculty of Medicine associated to Abant İzzet Baysal University in the 2007-2008 Academic Year. Search model has been used in this research.In this study, for the analysis of the data, descriptive statistics and to make comparisons between the groups some analysis techniques (t-test and one wayanova) have been applied. In order to test the homogenity of the variances, Levenne Test has been used. Tukey HSD has been used when the variances are found to be homogenous and Tamhane Test has been used when the variances are found to be not homogeneous.The following results are obtained from the study;The burnout levels of the instructors have been found to be low according to the dimensions of burnout and total burnout.The instructors? perceptions of emotional exhaustion, depersonalisation, reduced personal accomplishment dimensions and total burnout levels show no significant difference according to sex, age and the length of occupational service variables.The instructors? perceptions of emotional exhaustion, depersonalisation dimensions and total burnout levels show a significant difference according to marital status variable. The emotional exhaustion, depersonalisation and total burnout levels of married instructors have been found to be lower than the single ones.The instructors? perceptions of emotional exhaustion, depersonalisation, reduced personal accomplishment dimensions and total burnout levels show a significant difference according to the number of children variable. The emotional exhaustion and reduced personal accomplishment levels of instructors having no children have been found to be higher than the ones having 2 or more children. The depersonalisation and total burnout levels of instructors having no children have been found to be higher than the ones having 1 and 2 or more children.The instructors? perceptions of the emotional exhaustion, depersonalisation dimensions and total burnout levels show a significant difference according to the educational level variable. The emotional exhaustion, depersonalisation and total burnout levels of instructors having a master?s degree have been found to be higher than the ones having a doctorate degree.The instructors? perceptions of the emotional exhaustion, depersonalisation, reduced personal accomplishment dimensions and total burnout levels show a significant difference according to the title variable. The emotional exhaustion level of the research assistants has been found to be higher than the associate professors. The depersonalisation and total burnout levels of research assistants have been found to be higher than the associate professors and professors. The reduced personal accomplishment level of the research assistants has been found to be higher than the professors.According to these results, it is suggested to organize in-service training courses about burnout syndrome for the instructors.Key Words: Burnout, Burnout Syndrome, Burnout In Instructors
