The rapid information sharing conducted with the social networks that allows sharing and are accessed from the internet causes the tarnishing of the confidential information principle and questioning of personal information confidentiality. It is possible to say that the most common place in which these violations occur is the social networks. This circumstance raises the necessity to pay more attention to personal security and confidentiality in social media environments where general and confidential areas are widely used. The study aims to investigate the relationship between, behaviors of prospective teachers, managing the confidential information in social media environments, their internet addiction and habits of using social media according to different variables. The study group of this research consists of 625 prospective teachers, who received their education in the Education Faculty of Fırat University in 2017-208 education spring term. Because the opinions of the participants would be obtained based on the qualification of "having a certain professional qualification", including the 3rd and 4th-grade students in the study was deemed appropriate. In the qualitative analysis of the data gathered from the participants in the study, the study was conducted according to the general survey model. The data gathering tools, personal information form, purpose of using social media questionnaire, behaviors of managing information confidentiality scale, internet addiction and social media addiction scales, were implemented to the prospective teachers on printed papers by the researcher. In the analysis of the research data, various techniques such as frequency analysis, t-test, one-way variance analysis, Post-Hoc/Tukey HSD significance test and correlation analysis were conducted. As a result of the conducted analyses, some of the notable results were the facts that a majority of the participants who voluntarily participated in the study consisted of women and there was a large number of individuals who had social media accounts with a percentage of 98.4%. Additionally, it was determined that there was a positive low-level significant relationship between behaviors of information confidentiality management and internet addiction, and similarly, there was a positive low-level significant relationship between behaviors of information confidentiality management and social media addiction. Another result of the study was that there was a positive high-level significant relationship between internet addiction and social media addiction.
